Paula Schaefer Headshot tight

I am excited and honored to serve as President of WX for the coming year and look forward to working with all of you.

The WX Board and committees have been working hard these past few weeks, to make this an exciting year for the organization.

The Programming Committee is once again building a calendar of compelling and relevant programing.  The first breakfast of the Fall season welcomed Carl Weisbrod, Director of the New York City Department of City Planning and Chairman of the New York City Planning Commission and was a huge sucess.

Both the Scholarship and Mentoring Committees are looking to build on prior year’s successes as these efforts continue to grow.  In 2014, WX provided $132,500 of scholarships to 31 young women at 11 schools.  As our program expands we are looking at new ways to assist young women in the early stages of their careers in real estate, such as funding internships and sponsoring and providing judges for university real estate case competitions.  On the mentoring front, WX has 29 mentees in the program this year and has a variety of great events planned. If you are interested in being a mentor, please contact the Mentoring Co-Chairs.

The Dinner Committee is happy to report that this year’s Woman of the Year Gala, honoring past WX President Susan Swanezy, is on track to be a huge success.  The dinner sold out a month in advance. There are still two in-kind sponsorship opportunities available. I hope to see many of you at The Pierre on November 18 to celebrate Susan’s many accomplishments and her tremendous contribution to WX.

My primary objective as President is to ensure that WX continues to grow as an organization which supports women in all stages of their real estate careers.  Outreach to young women in the profession through scholarship and mentoring efforts is an important mission of WX.  Equally important is continually striving to make WX relevant for all of you, as members.  With a diverse membership of nearly 200 women from all facets of real estate, I strongly believe that WX is a unique and special organization for women in our industry.  In addition to continuing to provide relevant programming and a variety of networking opportunities, we want to make sure members are able to efficiently connect with each other.  This year an initiative will be undertaken to significantly upgrade the Membership Directory, with the addition of member biographies, head shots, and better search capabilities.  Look for more on that effort and I hope we can count on your participation.

Finally, we encourage your input and involvement in WX’s activities. If you have ideas for programming, membership, scholarship, or mentoring, I would encourage you to get in touch with the Committee Chairs.  A description of the committees and the Chairs is located on the “About Us” section of the WX website.

I look forward to seeing you soon at a WX event!
